HeartSaver CPR Instructor Training

Total Cost to become an AHA HeartSaver First Aid CPR AED Instructor:

1. Online Instructor Essentials: $36.00 PLUS

2. The Instructor course on campus: $300.00 PLUS

3. Equipment is required for you to teach classes such as manikins, which is a significant investment. A comprehensive list of the required equipment can be found at the end of this page. We also offer a rental service for our equipment specifically for instructors. The course videos and Instructor Manual are included as electronic versions in the course tuition. If you prefer DVD or USB formats for the videos or a physical instructor manual, there will be an additional cost for the instructor candidate.

4. Certification cards for your students: $22.00 each (Includes student manual eBook)

These steps outline the flow of the Instructor Candidate through the CPR Instructor Training process:

The HeartSaver Instructor Essentials Course is designed for individuals who do not work in or have a background in the Healthcare Setting but wish to instruct the HeartSaver CPR program. This registration covers Tuition Only! The AHA Certification requires the HeartSaver Instructor Candidate to purchase their Online HeartSaver Essentials Course and Instructor Materials as outlined below.

BONUS: HeartSaver CPR Instructors will also be able to instruct courses for the following agencies that offer reciprocity for AHA instructors attending HeartSouth's Instructor Course:

*American Heart Association (This Course)

*American RED CROSS

*American Health and Safety Institute (ASHI)

This opportunity will allow you to teach courses from those agencies as well as American Heart's Courses.

1. Hold a current AHA Certification, either the HeartSaver Certification (First Aid and CPR AED) or the AHA BLS Provider certification. 

2. Be at least 18 years old. 

3. Be prepared to complete and pass the HeartSaver Skills check-off as part of the CPR Instructor Training. 

4. Be ready to complete and successfully pass the HeartSaver Instructor Written Exam. 

****Those who do not pass the HeartSaver Skills & Written exam will not be able to continue and must reschedule for the next HeartSaver Instructor Course. Come to class fully prepared for this! 

5. Possess the necessary equipment to teach the course, including manikins, an AED Trainer, and more. See the list below.

These options ensure you have access to essential training materials that enhance your HeartSaver CPR expertise.

Bring with you the following items for your CPR Instructor Training:  

1. Proof of your current AHA Certification, either in HeartSaver or BLS.  

2. HeartSaver Instructor Essentials 2025 Online Course Completion Certificate.  

3. HeartSaver Instructor Manual, available in either print or eBook format.  

4. An electronic device, such as a laptop, to access the online modules.

Following successful completion of the AHA Certification for the HeartSaver CPR Instructor Essentials Course (both Online and Classroom portions), the candidate must be monitored by a Training Center Faculty member while teaching their first course within 6 months of completing the CPR Instructor Training. This will finalize the applicant instructor process.

Classroom rental with equipment such as manikins and AED trainers is available daily for standard flat rates at our Birmingham or Tuscaloosa locations. Ideal for those seeking AHA Certification through CPR Instructor Training or the HeartSaver CPR course, our rates are as follows: 1-4 hours for $75, and 4+ hours for $125.
